SENIOR LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE
APD TACACHALE NURSING
This is work providing practical nursing services to developmentally disabled individuals at Tacachale. Work is performed under the direction and general supervision of a registered nurse, and is reviewed for compliance, standards and procedures.
Prepare, administer and document medications and treatment as per nursing policy and procedure.
Maintain documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Observe, record and report physical and behavioral response to medication and treatment.
Use nursing process for ongoing care of individuals as need is identified. Intervention would include, but not be limited to: observation, referral to the registered nurse, medication and treatment as prescribed and/or crisis intervention.
Maintain work area, medical supplies and equipment, and adheres to infection control policies.
Accompany individuals to clinic and off:center appointments as assigned.
Provide emergency nursing service within the scope of nursing practice.
Provide nursing care and administers treatment as directed by a professional nurse to subacute, chronic, and convalescent residents.
Assist a professional nurse and/or physician in clinics, diagnostic tests and physical examinations by preparing clinic room for use, collecting routine specimens, taking and recording temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
Prepare and administers hypodermic injections as ordered by the attending physician.
Perform simple rehabilitative nursing procedures for selected chronically ill and aged residents.
Assist a professional nurse with screening procedures.
Assist physicians with physical examinations.
Assist professional nurses in completing and maintaining medical records and residents progress.
Assist in the development and monitoring of nursing service objectives.
Participate as appropriate in all objectives developed for the individuals assigned.
Work in conjunction with the registered nurse to assure continuity of care and adherence to ICF/DD standards.
Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and special clinics as assigned.
Participate in and reinforces health care teaching to assure adherence to current principles of care as ordered.
Attend in:service training and participates in continuing education programs for the developmentally disabled person.
Monitor and role model infection control programs during daily activities.
Adhere to ethical practice standards.
Participate in nursing committees as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.
Must have knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Must be skilled in the use of emergency equipment within scope of training.
Must have ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals who are developmentally disabled.
Must have ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use emergency equipment.
Must have ability to stand, walk, sit and bend for periods more than three hours.
Must have ability to assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, as needed.
Must have ability to successfully complete Prevention and Safety Strategies Training.
